Parallel 125,000 trucks loaded .. The ruins of the Burma earthquake amounted to 2.5 million tons
“It is necessary to remove at least two and a half million tons of rubble, which represents about 125,000 fiery trucks,” the United Nations Development Program said in a statement.
“There are more than 60,000 people in temporary displacement sites” and they are “very afraid of returning to their homes.”
The devastating Burma earthquake
The devastating earthquake, which was 7.7, claimed the lives of 3300 people and caused severe material damage, according to a toll issued by the ruling military council last week.
The United Nations Development Program indicated that many buildings were not designed to bear such a strong seismic activity.
“We need to return patients and the displaced people to solid ceilings and start repairing the vital infrastructure,” Metra added, noting that “patients are now residing in parking lots and are exposed to heat up to 40 degrees and heavy rains.”
United Nations
Data allows the United Nations Development Program to define priority areas, to send national engineers to conduct a rapid assessment of the needs of buildings and biological infrastructure.
The statement quoted Davanand Ramia, director of tackling crises and responding to emergency situations in the United Nations Development Program, as saying that “by integrating estimates of the population, building data and damaging damage, respondents can define the most affected areas faster and determine the priorities of their efforts.”
