The Sharjah Conference for School Library Security confirms the role of the library in building a knowledge society

Sharjah, April 15 / WAM / The activities of the first session of the “Sharjah Conference on School Libraries”, which is organized by the Sharjah Book Authority in cooperation with a number of local and international societies, were launched today at the Expo Center, with the participation of a group of experts and educators from inside and outside the country.

Participants stressed the importance of the school library in promoting a culture of lifelong reading, and its vital role in developing students ’skills, and supporting their psychological and knowledge well -being, as well as enabling them to interact with knowledge.

Mansour Al -Hassani, General Coordinator of the Professional Conferences at the Sharjah Book Authority, pointed out that schools are the starting point towards building a coherent knowledge society and school libraries, which constitutes the basis on which the relationship of new generations is based on reading and book.

He pointed out that the Sharjah Book Authority, under the directives of Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, views this conference as an area to exchange experiences and practical opportunity to enable workers in the school libraries sector to reach global tools and experiences that contribute to converting the school library into a stimulating interactive environment.

Michael Duceden, Director of the International Relations Office at the American Library Association, stressed the importance of international cooperation in developing school libraries, while Becky Calzadeh, President of the American Association for School Library Secretaries, stressed that libraries have become basic engines for spreading a lifelong reading culture and centers for inspiration for future generations to be more involved in the knowledge industry.

During the conference sessions, Dr. Margaret Mirga, the participating professor at the University of Notre Dame -Freemantel, Australia, reviewed the results of the international workforce surveying for the year 2024, which included data from 63 countries, stressing that reading for pleasure plays a crucial role in building students’ skills and achieving their psychological and mental well -being.
