ABU DHABI, 9 February / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan witnessed the opening of the second session of the Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival, whose activities will be held at the ADNEC Center in Abu Dhabi until February 11, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority.

His Highness was briefed on a number of cultural initiatives and poetry platforms hosted by the festival, the most prominent of which are “Poetry Bridge,” “Emirates Poetry Map,” “Little Poet’s Corner,” “Poetry Theater,” and “Poetry Café.” His Highness also visited the pavilion of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and the pavilions of a number of cultural entities and institutions participating in the festival, and met an elite group of poets and creators who contribute to enriching the cultural scene, supporting the poetic and literary movement, and enhancing the status of the Arabic language through poetic creations in Nabataean and classical Arabic poetry.

His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival embodies the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s approach to consolidating the importance and status of culture as one of the basic elements of national identity, as a bridge for cultural communication between generations. His Highness praised the efforts of cultural entities that support initiatives to nurture creative talents and transmit the national cultural heritage in contemporary ways that keep pace with cultural and cognitive transformations.

The festival embodies the emirate’s commitment to supporting cultural and creative industries, consolidating its position as a leading destination in preserving the Arab cultural heritage and enhancing its presence on the international scene, in addition to nurturing poetic talents and enabling them to contribute to enriching the cultural scene locally and regionally, by providing a cultural platform that contributes to highlighting the Emirati, Gulf and Arab poetic experiences, and allows the exchange of visions and ideas between poets, critics and those interested in cultural affairs, in a way that supports the enrichment of the literary movement. And keep pace with contemporary intellectual and creative transformations.

The second session of the “Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival” comes in the context of the cultural movement taking place in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and within the framework of the “Year of the Family” initiatives, which reflects the role of poetry in promoting societal values and establishing communication between past and present generations by reviving the literary heritage and presenting it in contemporary creative methods that highlight the depth of the national cultural identity, and contribute to consolidating the status of culture and literature as a bridge for dialogue between various segments of society.

It is worth noting that the first session of the Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival witnessed a wide participation of poets from the UAE, the Gulf states and the Arab world, as it attracted more than 1,000 poets, writers and researchers, and more than 15,000 visitors and those interested in issues of Arab poetry.

During this visit, His Highness was accompanied by His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture, His Excellency Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, His Excellency Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and Dr. Sultan Al Amimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union.
