"Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity" 2026 by Kuwaiti artist Muhammad Jaber


Sharjah, 9 February / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Department of Culture announced that the distinguished Kuwaiti theatrical artist Muhammad Jaber won the “Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity” in its 19th session of 2026, in recognition of his rich artistic career and his prominent contributions to the development of the Arab theatrical movement.
The department explained that the award comes in appreciation of Muhammad Jaber’s experience, which was linked to the golden age of Kuwaiti art, as he is considered an inspiring model for the self-made artist, and his works contributed to consolidating the status of Kuwaiti and Arab theatre.
The “Sharjah Award for Arab Theatrical Creativity” was established under the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in 2007, and is awarded to those with pioneering and distinguished Arab theatrical experiences in the fields of acting, directing, writing and criticism.
Muhammad Jaber was born in 1945 in Kuwait, and his talent emerged from his childhood. He studied in 1961 under the late Egyptian artist Zaki Tulaimat, and he was one of the founders of the Arab Theater Group.
His participation in the play “Seize Your Time” in 1965 marked his real launch, before his successes continued in numerous theatrical, radio, television and cinematic works, in addition to his founding of the “Free Theater” group and the “Zarzour Foundation”, which he devoted to children’s theatre.
Artist Muhammad Jaber will receive the award during the opening ceremony of the 35th session of “Sharjah Theater Days” on March 24, where an intellectual symposium will be organized about his experience, and a book will be published documenting the most prominent stages of his artistic career.
In the same context, the Department of Culture announced the selection of artist and writer Jamal Ahmed Ali, “Jamal Al-Sumaiti,” as an honored local figure in the 35th session of the “Sharjah Theater Days” Festival, in appreciation of his theatrical contributions spanning more than four decades. He will be honored during the opening ceremony, and a special symposium on his experience will be organized, in addition to issuing a documentary booklet about his career.
