UAE law guarantees senior citizens the right to independence and privacy, including their right to take decisions regarding their property, money and place of residence, the right to protect against exposure to violence, abuse and neglect, the right to the qualified environment, housing, education and work, and the right to obtain social services through the institutions of senior citizens, clubs, community centers and mobile care units, providing health care and preventive, in addition to ensuring The preferential treatment, as they are priority in housing requests, the completion of government transactions, access to aid, health services and others.
The Family Minister, Sanaa bint Muhammad Suhail, stressed that the ministry will work to launch mobile units that visit neighborhoods and residential areas, to provide health and service services directly to the elderly, especially for those who have difficulty in moving, as previously implemented through the mobile unit of senior citizens in the emirate of Ajman, which received approval and demand by senior citizens, and designing simplified technological training programs to qualify senior citizens To gradually use digital applications and services, in a language that suits their needs, and involve them in societal and cultural life through voluntary and educational programs for them.
She said in a written response to a parliamentary question, during the last session of the Federal National Council (last Wednesday): “The ministry realizes that senior citizens are a basic pillar of society, and that providing them with integrated services reflects the state’s appreciation for their giving and their pivotal role. Accordingly, the Ministry seeks to adopt a package of procedures to develop the quality of services provided to them, especially in aspects that represent a direct challenge for them, such as electronic services, comprehensive health care, community participation, and updating personal data ». The Ministry will also adopt the launch of a reliable phone service (auxiliary line for senior citizens, to update their data without the need to go to centers or the use of the Internet), and to cooperate with the relevant authorities such as the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, banks and health centers, to ensure the integration of data and update them in a uniform and smooth in a manner without repeating the procedures.
National policy
The UAE has launched the national policy of senior citizens, as an integrated care system to ensure a decent life for them, and at the same time, to ensure their active participation in the development process, and the policy included four strategic goals, and seven major axes, are health care, community communication, active life, investment of energies, civil participation, infrastructure, transportation, financial stability, security, safety, and the quality of future life, along with more than 26 initiatives And an innovative project. According to politics’s outputs, the UAE continues to work to ensure the harmony of senior citizens in the societal system, and to organize their role in transferring experiences and knowledge in an atmosphere and circumstances commensurate with their health needs, and takes into account their desires and requirements.
