Abbas calls for “Hamas” to hand over its weapons to power and urge it to hand over the hostages

Today, Wednesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Hamas to end its control over the Gaza Strip, hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority, and to turn into a political party, as part of efforts to address international doubts over the role of power at this critical time that the region is going through.
Abbas made the statements during the opening of the work of the 32nd session of the Palestinian Central Council in Ramallah in the West Bank, where he is expected to announce the appointment of a deputy who succeeds him in the position amid pressure from Western and Arab powers that are concerned about the ability of the Palestinian Authority to play a long -term applicable role in peace efforts.
Abbas said that “Hamas must end its control over the Gaza Strip, hand over the sector with all its affairs, and to hand over weapons to the Palestinian National Authority and turn into a political party that operates according to the laws of the Palestinian state, and is committed to international legitimacy and the national legitimacy represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization.”
The Palestinian President also urged Hamas to hand over the Israeli hostages to “fill the excuses” in front of Israel, which continues to bomb it on the Gaza Strip.
Abbas added, “Hamas provided the criminal occupation excuses to carry out its crimes in the Gaza Strip, most notably the seizure of the hostages.
In his speech, which lasted for the hour, Abbas reviewed the losses that were inflicted on the Palestinians since the start of the Israeli war, after Hamas attacking Israeli military settlements and targets.
“More than 200,000 Palestinians are among a martyr and a wounded, including 2165 families (Muhait) from the civil registry,” Abbas said.
Abbas described what the Palestinian people are exposed to as “the new catastrophe threatening our existence.”
