The discovery of a 5,000 -year -old cemetery in Peru

Lima, April 25/ WAM/ Archaeologists in Peru discovered the cemetery of a woman who lived about five thousand years ago, who might have belonged to the upper classes of the ancient Cural civilization, a discovery that they say indicates the importance of women in the city at that time.

Carral is the oldest city in the Americas, and it may have been inhabited at the same time that the ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Sumerian civilizations were established, but unlike these civilizations, researchers say they were developing in complete isolation.

Archaeologist David Palumino told Reuters yesterday, Thursday, that this is an important cemetery because it contains elements that indicate a prominent position, noting the way the body is wrapped and preserved its skin, hair and nails.
