Director of “International Labor”: The unemployment rate in Bahrain is the lowest world

The Director General of the International Labor Organization Gilbert F. praised. Hongoo, with Bahraini practices and legislation for workers’ rights, describing it as positive.
He added in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the Bab Bahrain Forum 2025, that the organization sees positive for Bahraini practices and laws towards workers, pointing out in this regard that Bahrain listens to international opinions on developing workers ’rights, and does so to the fullest. The Director General of the organization pointed out that the unemployment rate in Bahrain is one of the lowest worldwide, which reflects the stability of the labor market in the Kingdom, expressing his hope that the forum will become an annual event that discusses the integration of business, trade and workers’ rights.
Hongoo stressed the importance of commercial agreements and their impact on the international economy, pointing to the agreements that were signed between countries such as Canada and Mexico, and the international supervision they require to protect workers’ rights and ensure a decent work environment. He reviewed the challenges that may arise as a result of these agreements, such as unhealthy commercial practices and their impact on productivity, stressing the need for clear criteria that guarantee a fair work environment.
He cited cooperation experiences between the European Union and Canada, explaining that improving economic practices contributes to enhancing the work environment and increasing the competitiveness, calling for enhancing cooperation between local and international sectors to provide effective solutions to global economic challenges.
He stressed that global trade cannot be fair unless workers ’rights are respected, pointing to the importance of countries’ commitment to providing the minimum requirements for decent work, and the necessity of giving countries enough time to negotiate within the framework of commercial conflicts, especially with the United States.
He indicated that the administration of US President Donald Trump has given time to negotiate these recent customs duties, and everyone is awaiting the results of these negotiations, expressing his hope that negotiations will not be limited to customs tariffs, but rather to equal workers’ rights.
