The government is working to address challenges

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun commented on the UAE businessman, Khalaf Al Habtoor, to transfer the building of the “Metropolitan Beirut” hotel, which he owns, to another country, explaining that his government is working to address the challenges facing investors and depositors in Lebanese banks in general through the laws of reforming banks and financial gap.

He affirmed during his meeting with the heads of the editor -in -chief of Emirati newspapers yesterday, on the sidelines of his visit to the Emirates, that “the al -Habtoor is a great and well -known businessman and there is no question mark on his money, but we want to address (the challenges of banking deposit) for the Lebanese and everyone.”

Al -Habtoor had revealed during a video posted on his account via “Instagram”, last Tuesday, that he intended to transfer the hotel by cutting the building and turning it into cut and shipping pieces from its current place to Syria or Jordan.

Aoun said: “The bank reform law is currently being studied, in addition to the financial gap, and the last is concerned with determining the responsibilities and the goal of the depositors, whether they are Lebanese or non -Lebanese.” He added, “Once this law sees the light, things will be clear.”

He continued: “The state is definitely responsible, whether through the central bank or banks, and the money of the depositors is their natural right, but some depositors have a question mark, and when we remove the banking secrecy, it will be clear from where this money came, and this matter applies to all depositors,” noting that this matter will be addressed in the financial gap law. “

Aoun said, “The government approved the bank reform law, and the Money Committee of the Parliament is currently studying it to raise it after that to the general (banking) authority to approve it, and the next Friday will start the government with the financial gap,” noting that “we must find a solution to the problem of depositors.”
