Abu Dhabi on May 1 / WAM / Peter Harrington, a specialist in the sale of rare books in London, is a rare version of the famous World Sina Medical Encyclopedia “Law in Medicine”, coinciding with the celebration of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in its thirty -fourth session in this world.
This comes in appreciation of the house to the historical and global importance of Ibn Sina’s contributions in the field of medicine, as his book “Law in Medicine”, which he wrote a thousand years ago, is a basic reference in the history of Islamic and international medicine, and contributed greatly to the development of medical science throughout the ages.
Bin Houston, Director of Sales at Peter Harrington, in a statement to Emirates News Agency / WAM /, expressed his pride in presenting this rare manuscript, which is the fifth volume of the book “Law in Medicine”, which dates back to 727 AH / 1327AD, which deals with the theory and practice of Islamic medicine in the Middle Ages, in addition to the “Drug Constitution” of Ibn Sina.
He emphasized that this valuable manuscript, which is likely to have been copied in Mamluk or Damascus, is considered the most comprehensive text in the science of pharmaceuticals from the middle Islamic ages, where about 600 composed drugs are classified, and the methods of obtaining, preparing and giving them, while the many marginal explanations show the extent of the impact of this manuscript in forming the knowledge of medieval doctors and their intense use of them.
The manuscript bears the title “Anabadin” (“” Book of Pharmacy “), in reference to the importance of this part of the book of law and the possibility of considering it an independent work. The name refers to Ibn Sina’s use of a wealth of medical knowledge published by classic scientists, such as: Galen and Andromacus the Great.
It is noteworthy that the manuscript, originally divided into five parts and is lacking two papers, was re -packaged with a black Moroccan skin dating back to the nineteenth century, and it is characterized by a front stomach, and a back of brown sheep skin, folded, decorated edges and decorated with a wavy pattern and an inner lining of dual pink sheep skin, which is preserved inside a blue canal can.
The Arabic text is copied on thick, unprocessed paper by twenty lines on the page using a black ink that shows some acidification, while the footnotes were written with green, red and black inks, and the manuscript includes non -interconnected Arabic contents, showing signs of time and neglect in the form of worn panels and edges, as well as containing paper covered with wet spots on the edges, and paper repairs On the first and final sheets and below many pages, the last paper also appears separate from the top.
It is worth noting that the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025, whose activities continue until May 5, chose Ibn Sina a central character this year, in appreciation of his pioneering contributions in the fields of medicine, philosophy and science, and his embodiment of integration between reason and science, and for the influence of his prominent work in shaping human thought over the centuries.
