The UAE continues to enhance its global participation in preparation for the United Nations Water Conference 2026

The United Arab Emirates continued this month to enhance its global participation in the framework of the ongoing preparations for the United Nations Water Conference 2026, which the country is honored to host in partnership with the friendly Republic of Senegal.
Based on its commitment to paying the multilateral dialogue and finding sustainable solutions to water issues, the state participated in two high -ranking international forums: the forty -first meeting of the United Nations Water Authority, which was held in the Italian capital, Rome, from 2 to 3 April last, and the twelfth round table for water financing, hosted by the headquarters of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah during the period from 16 to 17 April last.
The round table organized the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Islamic Development Bank, with the participation of more than 100 representatives of governments, development banks, financial institutions, civil society, the academic sector and United Nations agencies.
Discussions focused on ways to employ Islamic financing principles to support more sustainable and flexible investments in the water sector, and aim to enrich the financing agendas of the United Nations Water Conference 2026 and the eleventh World Water Forum. The World Bank estimates the need for investments estimated at about $ 6.7 trillion by 2030 to achieve the sixth goal of sustainable development goals, which reflects the urgent need to fill new and innovative financial resources.
The high level of the effectiveness reflected the participation of a number of senior officials, among them His Excellency Sheikh Tijan Dye, Minister of Water and Sanitation in Senegal, and His Excellency Abdel Aziz Al -Shaibani, Deputy Minister of Water in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, embodying the joint commitment at the regional and international levels to pay the water sector financing.
His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Balla, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, delivered the speech of the UAE during the closing session, in which he affirmed that the United Nations Water Conference 2026 will constitute a pivotal station to accelerate the pace of progress, fill the gap between obligations and implementation, and the launch of a global momentum in favor of water and while interactive dialogues are still in determining, but there is a clear priority from now .. Finance and investment will be at the forefront of a table Business. ”
His Excellency also stressed the need to attract new sources of financing, especially from the private sector, and to create possible environments that allow financing with policies, technology and innovation to ensure the maximum impact of investment.
He pointed to the commitment of the UAE to pay innovation in the water sector through initiatives such as the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative, which includes the XPrize Award for water scarcity, and the agricultural challenge “water”.
In the same context, the UAE participated for the first time at the capital level at the forty -first meeting of the United Nations Water Authority, which was held in Rome.
The meeting provided an opportunity to enhance coordination with the members of the commission and the conference partners, including the Republic of Senegal and the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Department (Undesa), which holds the tasks of the 2026 Conference Secretariat.
The participating partners reviewed the results of the organizational session held in New York during the month of March, and encouraged those concerned to participate in electronic consultations related to the six interactive dialogues of the conference.
The results of these consultations are scheduled to be included in a rear note issued by the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Department during the month of May, in preparation for a high -level meeting held by the President of the General Assembly on July 9 in New York.
Through these posts, the UAE renews its commitment to supporting comprehensive dialogue, enhancing innovation, stimulating collective international work to ensure the success of the United Nations Water Conference 2026, and achieving tangible progress towards a more sustainable future.
