Abu Dhabi, May 5 / WAM / The Wing of the Muslim Wise Council organized within the framework of its cultural and knowledge activities at the 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, a seminar entitled “Media and promoting a culture of understanding and dialogue”, presented by His Excellency the Director General of the Emirates News Agency “WAM”, and the author and journalist Abdel -Latif Al -Manawi who stressed the importance of enhancing the ethics of media work and formulating a responsible speech based Tolerance and coexistence, especially in light of the increasing challenges related to the spread of hate speech through the media and social media.

At the beginning of the symposium, His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi said: “We are fully aware of the importance of the media, and we live in an unprecedented era in terms of the influence and spread of the word, as a result of the accelerating technological revolution that made the media an active element in shaping public opinion and directing societies.”

He added that: “The word is not just an expression tool, but rather a responsibility, as sedition may occur, or adopt awareness and peace, so whoever chooses to work in the media profession must realize that he bears a human and national responsibility that is increasing day by day.”

He explained that the biggest challenge in the face of hate speech is not only in traditional media institutions such as television and newspapers, but in the electronic space that has become open to millions of users without clear professional or moral controls, pointing out that there is a lot of false information and negative speeches that spread daily, and the real media is the one who stands in the face of these waves by spreading facts and enhancing the values of responsibility.

The Director General of the Emirates News Agency stressed that “the Emirati media has a unique model in terms of commitment to spreading a positive speech that reflects the spirit of tolerance and enhances the values of dialogue and rapprochement without distinguishing between members of society of all nationalities and religions, explaining that the media is a pivotal tool in building bridges and enhancing the culture of moderation, and that societal interaction with the word is the real indication of the success of the writer or the media in communicating his message.

For his part, journalist Abdel -Latif Al -Manawi said that with the development of means of communication, every individual in the world today has become influential, the effect of the word has doubled, and the communication scene is available to everyone and from here, we must work to be the word common ground for building understanding, not a means of fueling and dispute.

Al -Manawi praised the efforts of the Council of Muslim Elders in promoting the culture of understanding and dialogue, citing the human brother’s document signed by the late Pope Francis and the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al -Tayeb, the Sheikh of Al -Azhar Al -Sharif and said that this document would not have come out into the light had it not been for the support of the rational leadership and then the personality of the signed parties and their humanitarian and spiritual elements that made them capable of formulating a historical document in the history of history The conversation, and deserves effective mechanisms to ensure their sustainability and activation globally.

He added that the media is not a magic tool, but rather a reflection of the awareness of society, and it has a direct impact on the formation of convictions, and we need to spread positive discourse to confront hatred, generalize dialogue models, and support initiatives such as the human brother’s document in various environments, even those that seem narrow or closed to the other.
