"Abu Dhabi environment" A new list is issued to regulate the preparation and response to environmental emergency

Abu Dhabi, May 9/ WAM/ The Environment Authority – Abu Dhabi announced the issuance of a new regulatory regulation concerned with preparing and responding to environmental emergency in the emirate in a move aimed at enhancing institutional ability to immediately deal with environmental accidents and reduce its negative effects through proactive procedures organized by the regulation.

The issuance of the regulations based on Law No. 16 of 2005 regarding the reorganization of the authority and its amendments, and its provisions apply to all facilities and projects licensed by the authority, which may result from its activities pollutants that affect the land or marine environment or air quality, which may lead to an environmental emergency.

The regulation aims to support the environmental control system by integrating it within the evaluation, licensing, inspection and environmental enforcement system that the authority follows in a way that enhances the effectiveness of corrective and proactive procedures to confront emergency situations.
The regulation gives the authority the authority to classify installations and projects according to the level of potential environmental risks in addition to reviewing and adopting the emergency plans prepared by these bodies.
The regulation also includes setting technical requirements and controls related to preparing and responding to environmental emergency situations, including implementing workshops and simulating different environmental scenarios to raise the readiness of the establishments.

The Authority called on establishments and projects to take comprehensive preventive measures to avoid environmental emergency, including providing qualified and trained cadres and preparing effective response plans that are in line with the requirements of the regulation.

This procedure comes within the authority’s efforts to develop the legislative structure for licensing and environmental control and harnessing the latest systems to reduce the environmental impact of development and industrial activities in a way that enhances the protection of biological diversity, the sustainability of natural resources and the quality of life in the emirate.

The authority confirmed that it will begin the implementation of the new regulations in close cooperation with the strategic partners in the emirate according to a systematic and organized approach that guarantees the effectiveness of implementation and achieving the desired goals.
