"Future guards"An innovative educational initiative to enhance awareness of the efficiency of the use of electricity and water in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, May 26/ WAM/ The “Future Guards” initiative launched by the Energy Department in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Department of Education and Knowledge aims to consolidate the concepts of energy and water efficiency among school students in the emirate.
The initiative falls within the behavioral change program, one of the axes of Abu Dhabi Strategy for Energy and Water Efficiency 2030, which seeks to build a more aware and sustainable society in its consumption patterns.
The program targets more than 10,000 male and female students in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, through a series of interactive workshops and practical projects, as well as preparatory workshops for the expected effectiveness of the hackathon.
Hakathon is scheduled to take place on May 28 and 29 on the sidelines of the World Facilities Conference, with the participation of 100 students from 10 schools in the emirate competing for realistic solutions to change daily behaviors, which can be applied in their societies.
Eng. Ahmed Al Falasi, Executive Director of the Energy Energy Sector in the Energy Department, said that the “Future Guards” initiative constitutes an important station in our march towards building a conscious and aware of the importance of rationalizing the consumption of natural resources, as it is not limited to theoretical awareness, but also gives students an opportunity to participate active as industries to change within their families and society, and through partnership with the Department of Education and Knowledge, we promote the role of education is a major way to achieve Sustainable behavioral transformation, integrating design methods and practical interaction in the initiative to give students a real platform for creating applicable realistic solutions.
He stressed the importance of the level of interaction and attention that the initiative received so far, and aspiring to achieve concrete results that exceed the scope of awareness, to real savings in the consumption of electricity and water, contributing to supporting the long -term environmental and economic goals of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The first stage of the initiative, which started in early May, witnessed a remarkable interaction from students, as more than 3071 students have so far participated in 105 educational sessions.
The initiative aims to reach more than 10,000 students during its first year, through a series of awareness -raising sessions and preparatory workshops for the expected effectiveness of the hackath.
Awareness sessions continue until the end of June 2025, and a digital guide will be distributed to the participating students, and their participation is documented through videos and pictures displayed through the official platforms of the Energy Department and the Education and Knowledge Department.
For her part, Dr. Bashayer Al -Matroushi, Executive Director of the Talent Empowerment Sector in the Department of Education and Knowledge, said that the sustainability represents the Department of Education and Knowledge, more than just an element in the curriculum, as it is a basic value that we work to consolidate in the entire education system, and the “Future Guard” initiative comes as an extension of this vision, where the classrooms turn into live platforms to enhance environmental responsibility and call on parents to join To us to support and encourage this generation of change makers, when students are role models in school and home, our societies grow towards more aware and sustainable behaviors.
The “Future Guard” initiative targets students from grade 5 to 12 (years 6 to 13), and opens the way for Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra schools to participate actively in shaping a more sustainable future.
