Francophone Parliamentary Assembly: The UAE is a pioneering model in empowering women
ABU DHABI, 27th January, 2017 (WAM) – Her Excellency Amélia Lacrave, Member of the French Parliament for the French residing in Africa and the Middle East, and Secretary-General of the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly, confirmed that the UAE has a pioneering model in empowering women and enhancing their participation in parliamentary work and their effective contribution to the decision-making process.
She said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the second session of the Women Parliamentarians Forum of the Mediterranean Parliament, which began today and is hosted by the UAE, organized by the Federal National Council, that empowering women today constitutes a fundamental pillar in the endeavors of all countries to achieve sustainable development and economic progress, and that the UAE has succeeded in achieving outstanding achievements in this file.
She expressed her pride in participating in the forum, which provided an ideal platform for exchanging opinions and experiences, and learning about the efforts made in integration issues, noting that the United Arab Emirates pays great attention to issues of inclusion, especially the integration of women, and is constantly working to give them opportunities to achieve excellence and achievement in various fields.
She added that the UAE has clear legislation and a strong will to support women’s presence and enhance their participation in the decision-making process, in addition to their growing role in various sectors, including economic institutions, in addition to supporting their presence in international organizations and bodies, based on the deep belief in their pivotal role in achieving comprehensive development.
She pointed out that women’s parliamentary forums constitute an important tool for enhancing international cooperation and exchanging best legislative practices, stressing that joint parliamentary work contributes to supporting policies that support women and confronting common challenges.
Her Excellency Amelia Lakrafi stressed the importance of continuing these constructive dialogues, praising the role of the UAE in hosting international events that promote dialogue and understanding, and contribute to consolidating women’s position as an essential partner in the process of development and shaping the future.
