"Global tolerance and peace" Participate in an event on the promotion of refugee resilience

Geneva, May 29/ WAM/ The World Council for Tolerance and Peace, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), participated in organizing a high -level event that brought together international and academic leaders and international organizations, under the title: “Enhancing the resilience of refugees: a shared responsibility.”

The event, which was held yesterday at the UNHCR headquarters in Geneva, opened Rovindry Minxola, the assistant deputy for protection affairs, and His Excellency Ahmed bin Muhammad Al -Jarwan, Chairman of the World Council for Tolerance and Peace.

“We live in a world where there are increasing cases of displacement due to conflicts, violence and climate change, and the number of displaced people has exceeded 123 million, including 49 million children, among these 38 million refugees who crossed their country’s borders, and 72 million internally displaced people have not yet left their countries,” Minxula said.

She added: “But despite this painful reality, we see in the refugees an amazing determination. Steadfastness is not just survival, but rather the rebuilding of life, contributing to societies, and breaking the displacement link.”

And she continued: “Building steadfastness requires a shift in thinking: from emergency response to development solutions, and from temporary assistance to investment in health, education, housing and social protection.”

For his part, Al -Jarwan emphasized that this event is established for a transformation of how the international community deals with refugee issues.

He said: “We do not meet today as diplomats or researchers, but rather as a unified humanitarian front to confront one of the most urgent issues in our world: protecting and empowering refugees,” stressing that: “steadfastness is not inherited, but is built. It is built through fair systems, real opportunities, and policies that respect man.”

He pointed out that the issue of the event “strengthening the resilience of refugees: a shared responsibility” is not a slogan, but a global mandate that must be reflected in legislation, educational curricula and community development.

The opening session was followed by a high -level round table, which discussed four strategic axes in the empowerment of refugees, managed by Dr. Basma Al -Zain, Vice -President of the World Council for Tolerance and Peace for Academic Affairs.

Participants stressed the necessity of strengthening international laws, ensuring legal representation, developing protection tools, and taking into account the human dimension in immigration policies.

The speakers stressed that education is not a luxury but rather a necessity to build long -term resilience, a tool to protect children, and enable young people to integrate and lead.

Inspiring experiments were also shown from refugees and youth leaders in Switzerland and Chad, and speakers stressed the importance of supporting local empowerment networks and building paths to lead refugees from within.

Participants discussed the role of culture, arts and mental health in rebuilding societies after displacement, and enhancing understanding between host societies and refugees.

The event was attended by a high -level official and diplomat of representatives of the United Nations in Geneva and the United Nations organizations, including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

A large number of international civil society organizations, independent experts, research centers specialized in refugee and sustainable development affairs and more than 30 international and community organizations also participated.

A memorandum of understanding and joint work was signed between the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the World Council for Tolerance and Peace, on the sidelines of the event with the aim of enhancing and framing cooperation between the two sides to enhance tolerance, peace and refugee protection around the world.

The event also witnessed the official launch of the reference academic book: “Enhancing the resilience of refugees: global visions on integration, inclusion, and prosperity”, which deals with six integrated axes ways to empower refugees in the fields of law, education, innovation, economy, social integration, and empowering women and family.
