Sharjah Airport receives the first Ethiopian Airlines flights

Ethiopian Airlines launched a new service to transport passengers to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, as of June 1, 2025. The opening of the opening trip in Sharjah was celebrated through a special event, in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Essam Al Qasimi, head of the Civil Aviation Department in Sharjah, Omar Hussein, Ambassador of the Democratic Federal Democratic Republic For Ethiopian Airlines in the UAE, the departure of Asfa, Vice President of the Group for Marketing Affairs at Ethiopian Airlines, Khaled Walid Al Mansouri, Director of External Promotion Department at the Tourism Authority in Sharjah, as well as a number of senior government officials and Ethiopian Airlines representatives.
The new destination will be operated at a rate of four flights per week, providing comfortable travel options between Sharjah and the wide global destination network for Ethiopian Airlines. These trips are also expected to enhance the movement of trade, tourism and cultural exchange between Africa and the Middle East.
Commenting on the launch of the new service, Mesour Tasio, CEO of the Ethiopian Airways Group, said: “We are already happy to provide our customers an additional destination in the UAE through our flights to Sharjah. It has passed nearly five decades and we link Africa and the UAE, and this new service will contribute to enhancing investment, tourism, diplomatic relations and social and economic ties between the two regions.”
