Sheikha Al -Nuwais is looking into Cyprus and Greece to support the development of the global tourism sector

The Secretary -General of the United Nations Tourism Organization for the period from 2026 to 2029, Sheikha Nasser Al -Nuwais, held bilateral meetings with a number of ministers from the Republic of Cyprus and the Republic of Greece, with the aim of discussing ways to enhance joint cooperation to support efforts to develop the global tourism sector.

This came on the sidelines of the participation of Al -Nuwais in the first version of “Investopia – Mediterranean” held in Cyprus, and witnessed a wide international participation of leaders, ministers, businessmen, investors and economic experts, in the Emirates, Lebanon, Cyprus, Greece and Europe.

These meetings come within the framework of Nuwais’s efforts to consult with international partners on the priorities of global tourism work during the next stage, in preparation for assuming the duties of the United Nations General Secretariat of the United Nations Tourism Organization from 2026 to 2029.

Sheikha Al -Nuwais stressed that tourism plays a major role in promoting sustainable economic growth, as it contributes to creating job opportunities, supports local companies in the growth of their business and increasing their revenues, and enhancing the link between cultures, noting the importance of supporting joint work to develop new initiatives and projects in various activities and tourism fields.

In addition, Sheikha Al -Nuwais held three meetings with ministers in the government of the Republic of Cyprus, and they are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Konstantinos Combos, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Giorgos Babanastio, and the Minister of State for Tourism in Cyprus, Costas Comes.

She briefed the three ministers on its strategic vision to enhance the preservation of the tourism and cultural identity of societies, the development of the role of tourism in creating job opportunities for young people, encouraging the culture of preserving environmental and natural resources, enhancing the ability of the tourism sector to adapt to future global challenges, and develop sustainable tourism products.
