4 Atletico Madrid fans were imprisoned because of the “Vinicius doll”

Four of the “Ultras” fans of the Spanish club Atletico Madrid were sentenced to a suspended prison sentence for suspending a doll for Real Madrid star, Vinicius Junior, on a bridge, while the police considered him a “hate crime”, according to judicial sources on Monday.
A dark skin doll was hung in the Brazil striker’s shirt from her neck on a highway bridge near the Real Madrid training stadium in January 2023, before the derby match between the Capital teams.
In May 2023, the police arrested four men, all of whom are members of “Fente Atlético”, a group of Atletico Madrid fans, Ultras, on suspicion of responsibility for the crime.
Under an agreement to approve a guilt with the prosecution, which the court still affirms, the four admitted guilt for the crimes of the player’s threat and violating his basic rights, according to judicial sources. Three of these approved a 14 -month prison sentence, while one was sentenced to 22 months in prison for posting pictures of this online act.
The four will not be imprisoned, as it is customary in Spain to suspend the punishment of those sentenced to less than two years in prison for non -violent crimes, if they do not have a criminal record. The public prosecutor had demanded that each of them be imprisoned for four years.
The four players have signed a letter of apology addressed to Vinicius, Real Madrid, Liga and the Spanish Football Association, and they will be asked to complete a training program on equal treatment and non -discrimination, according to the Spanish League League in a statement.
The statement added that they were also fined and were prevented from approaching a thousand meters from the Brazilian player or any stadium for more than five years.
“This referee represents a strong step forward in combating hatred and discrimination in sport,” the Spanish League said, noting that it filed the original complaint in the wake of these incidents.
Real Madrid welcomed the ruling, saying in a separate statement that the four are raising to 14 the total number of persons convicted of racist attacks against its players. The club pledged to continue efforts to “eliminate any racist behavior in the world of football.”
The Brazilian striker, who made his video testimony in the case last month, was a target of many racist incidents since his arrival in Madrid in 2018, which sparked public anger and led to several judicial convictions.
