Sales outlets begin to implement the decision to pricing goods with “unit”

The major sales outlets in the country began implementing the decision of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, regarding the obligation of retailers, to offer food and consumer goods on the basis of unity, whether by liters or kilograms, which facilitates consumers comparing the prices of products, and taking appropriate purchase decisions, in light of the offering of thousands of commodities in different sizes and weights in the state markets.

And consumers demanded through “Emirates Today” to put guiding signs in the sales outlets that explain the start of the implementation of the decision, noting that they learned of its application by chance, and some of them saw the new price posters and did not understand their meaning or purpose. They also called for writing the price of the commodity in the unit, with a larger line of what is currently written at the bottom of the commodity price to facilitate the comparisons.

For its part, the sales outlets confirmed that the decision is an advanced step that supports consumers’ rights, by exercising their right to know the basic information related to commodities, on top of which is the price, explaining that the price of the commodity in the unit is written in a line smaller than the price of the commodity, which is deliberate so that consumers do not mix between the price of the commodity according to its weight and commercial mark, and between the price of the unit in kilograms or by liters.

In detail, the major sales outlets in the country began implementing the decision of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism to compel retailers, to offer food and consumer goods on the basis of unity, in order to ensure transparency and enhance competition, which facilitates the consumer comparing the prices of products and making sound purchase decisions.

The consumer, Youssef Abdel Rahman, praised the start of the decision to implement the decision, stressing that it helps consumers to compare the prices of different commodities, and choose what suits them. Abdul Rahman called for an awareness campaign at the state level, to understand consumers more, how important it is, and how to benefit from its application.

The consumer Alia Farouk said that the decision helps consumers to know the prices of each commodity, and compare the similar goods to choose the most appropriate, considering this an important step that raises consumer awareness.

She also called for an awareness campaign about the start of the decision and its importance for consumers, and she also demanded that the price line enlarge the unit to facilitate comparisons.

For his part, the consumer, Ali Mustafa, demanded that the unit price be written in a clearer line, and to put awareness banners and posters in the outlets, explaining the start of the decision to implement the decision and its usefulness to consumers to support the benefit of it, indicating that he learned of its application by chance, and a lot to know what is meant by it.

In turn, the official in a large sales port in Abu Dhabi, Abu Bakr Hafiz, said that the decision supports the protection of consumer rights, by exercising their right to know the basic information related to goods, foremost of which is the price, in implementation of the Consumer Protection Law, which facilitates the comparison between the prices of different commodities, indicating that the UAE is among a few countries in the world the implementation of this decision, which is a move and an advanced step in protecting the rights of consumers.

He considered that setting update signs of the decision and its benefit is a good idea that helps consumers to achieve its purpose, and benefit more from it.

The official in another outlet, Ali Dawood, agreed with him that this decision constitutes an important qualitative shift in protecting consumer rights in the country.
