Low volume of European Union imports of energy

Brussels on June 29 / WAM / The value of the European Union imports of energy during the first quarter of this year amounted to 95.3 billion euros, which represents 176.4 million tons of different products.

The European Statistics Office “Eurostat” said that while the total value of these imports witnessed a slight increase of 0.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024, the volume decreased by 3.9 percent.

A detailed look at the annual trends reveals a decrease in the value of imported oil “11.9%” and its size “8.0%”, and on the contrary, liquefied gas imports increased sharply, as their value increased by 45.3%and its size by 12.1%, and the value of natural gas imports increased in the form of a “19.05%” gas, despite the decrease in size by 12.1%.

By comparing the monthly averages for the first quarter of 2025 with the monthly averages of 2024, oil imports decreased by 9.4 percent in terms of value and 7.1 percent in size and natural gas imports changed significantly: LNG imports jumped by 55.0% in terms of value and 24.7% in size, while natural gas imports increased by 6.4% in terms of value but decreased by a rate 13.8% in size.

The United States and Norway have emerged as a major suppliers of the European Fuel Fuel in the first quarter of 2025 and for oil imports, the United States acquired 15.0% of the total value of imports, followed by Norway 13.5% and Kazakhstan 12.7%.

The United States took control of liquefied natural gas imports, constituting 50.7% of the total value of imports, ahead of Russia 17.0% and Qatar 10.8%.

Norway was the main supplier of gas natural gas, as it acquired 52.6% of the total imports, and Algeria represented a 19.4 percent stake, while Russia acquired a 11.1 percent stake.
