"IATA": 5% increased demand for air travel globally during May

Geneva, June 30 / WAM / The demand for air travel 5% and air freight increased 2.2% during May 2025 compared to the same period last year “May 2024”, according to data from the International Air Transport Federation “IATA” for the month it issued today.
The international travel demand increased by 6.7% compared to May 2024, the capacity increased by 6.4% on an annual basis, and the load factor reached 83.2%.
The domestic demand for travel increased by 2.1% compared to May 2024, and the capacity increased by 2.8% on an annual basis, while the load coefficient reached 83.7%.
Willie Walsh, the general manager of “IATA”, said that the growth of demand for air travel was a geographical varying, and the Pacific Asia and the Pacific region topped this growth by 9.4%, while North America recorded a decrease of 0.5%, driven by a decrease of 1.7%in local travel in the American market.
With regard to air freight, the airlines in Asia and the Pacific, the strongest performance of 8.3%, while the shipping movement with North American companies decreased by 5.8%.
