360 male and female students from 90 countries participate in the “Chemistry Olympics” today

From July 14th, the UAE will host the 57th session of the International Chemistry Olympics (Icho 2025), the most prominent scientific event in the world in the field of chemistry, with the participation of more than 360 students from 90 countries, which is the largest participation rate in the history of the Olympics since its inception in 1968, which reflects the advanced position that the UAE occupies on the map of global scientific education.

The general program of the 2025 Olympics, which is held under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education, includes high -level theoretical and practical tests, and knowledge and cultural tours for the participants, as well as festive activities that embody the spirit of cultural convergence among young people from different countries of the world. This year’s version of the Olympics is also unique in a package of technical innovations that include advanced digital tools to monitor the conduct of tests, in addition to an integrated practical test environment, which represents a future model for educational laboratories.

The Minister of Education, Sarah bint Youssef Al -Amiri, stressed that the UAE’s hosting of the International Chemistry Olympics (Icho 2025) reflects the state’s vision of being a beacon of science and innovation, and a destination that embraces young scientific talents.

She said that the International Chemistry Olympics is an important opportunity to motivate Emirati students to excellence and creativity, and contributes to preparing a new generation of scientists who are able to compete globally, and supports the development of the education system according to the highest international standards.

For his part, the cultural advisor to His Highness the President of the State, the Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University, Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, said that the Olympics constitutes a global scientific platform that highlights academic excellence and the spirit of innovation among young people, and reflects the UAE’s commitment to support science and knowledge, stressing that the university’s participation in organizing the event comes within its national role in producing and employing knowledge in community service.

He added, “Through this participation, we embody our vision in building a knowledge -based future, and we believe that investing in young minds is the basis of sustainable development.”

The 2025 International Chemistry Olympics program, which begins in Dubai today with the participation of more than 360 students from about 90 countries, includes advanced theoretical and practical tests, as well as cognitive and cultural tours and festive events that embody cultural diversity.

This year version is characterized by the use of advanced digital tools to monitor the conduct of tests, as well as an integrated laboratory environment that simulates future laboratories.

In the Olympics, the UAE represents four talented students, who were chosen after accurate liquidation stages.

The team, consisting of the four students, underwent an intense training program that spanned months, which included specialized workshops and scientific camps inside and outside the country, the most prominent of which is a training camp in the “Sirius” center in Russia, and a final camp at the Emirates University. This preparation embodies the Ministry’s commitment to building national competencies capable of representing the state in international scientific forums.

The 2025 Olympics will be a stimulating platform to encourage Emirati students to specialize in chemistry and related scientific fields, and will contribute to pushing educational institutions towards reviewing their curricula and developing them in line with international standards. This event will also provide unprecedented opportunities to exchange experiences between students, teachers and researchers from different countries of the world, and to enhance academic and scientific cooperation at the international level, in addition to its inspiring role in highlighting the importance of science in societal development, and motivating future generations to engage in the fields of science and technology.

The hosting comes as an extension of a series of successes achieved by the UAE in organizing international scientific Olympics, such as the Olympics of Sciences for Junior (2021) and the International Biology Olympics (2023), which confirms the state’s readiness and its ability to host educational activities with international standards, and enhances its presence in the process of supporting knowledge, and devotes its role as an international center for innovation and quality education.
