Syria – emergency international assistance to support the response to forest fires in Lattakia

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that these funds will enable partners in humanitarian work – primarily the Syrian Arab Red Crescent – to provide urgent assistance to thousands of people affected by fires.
The UN official said in a statement issued by his office: “Forest fires had catastrophic consequences for local communities, which required our immediate interest.”Adding: “We are in solidarity with the Syrian people during this state of emergency, and we will continue to do everything we can to support the partners in response to those who need it.”.
The Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that while the evaluation operations continue in 60 society, initial reports indicate that the fires led to the displacement of hundreds of individuals, the destruction of agricultural lands and vital infrastructure, and the disruption of ways to live in the coastal region.
He explained that the United Nations is in close coordination with the local authorities and partners in humanitarian work on the ground, and it is ready to mobilize more support as needed.
He called the Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria International donors to provide urgent support in response to this emergency situation, “which seems to have already deviated from control. Flexible and timely financing is crucial to saving lives and protecting societies in moments of crises.”
