Sharjah Heritage Institute documents the emirate’s experience in preserving Arab heritage

Sharjah, July 15 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al -Muslim, President of the Sharjah Institute of Heritage, participated in a symposium “Experiences in Documenting Arab Heritage” held at the Conference Center within the activities of the cultural program of the Alexandria International Book Library in its 20th session in the presence of a group of intellectuals, academics and those interested in heritage from various Arab countries.

During his participation, the Muslim shed light on the leadership of the leaders of Sharjah in the preservation of cultural heritage since the early beginnings in the 1970s, leading to the establishment of the Sharjah Heritage Institute in 2014 to be the first scientific edifice specialized in preserving and documenting the Emirati and Arab cultural heritage.

He reviewed the basic axes of the experiment, starting from the first individual and institutional efforts through the establishment of the Heritage Department and the documentation of oral accounts to the end of the major projects adopted by the institute such as: “The Sharjah International Cultural Heritage Award”, “Emirati crafts and professions” and “Maccaro Cultural Heritage in the Arab world” praising the active role that the Alexandria Library plays in the digitization of these efforts within the framework Integrated science.

The Muslim also revealed the institute’s orientation towards the use of artificial intelligence techniques in documenting heritage elements, in addition to enhancing international cooperation through the “Center for International Organizations for Cultural Heritage” of the institute and provides a platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge between cultural institutions at the regional and international levels.

And Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that the event comes within the library’s vision in promoting cultural awareness and spreading an awareness message addressed to young generations of the importance of preserving Arab heritage as a cultural value and a civilized identity.
