Gaza: hostilities result in more deaths and displacement

The UN office stated in its latest update on the situation that the Israeli authorities issued another evacuation order today, Friday, for parts of northern Gaza.

The OCHA office reported that it continues to receive very disturbing reports about the admission of children and adults with malnutrition into hospitals that are not available for their treatment.

The fuel crisis is exacerbated

The Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that the energy crisis in Gaza is getting deeper, despite the resumption of limited fuel imports, noting that the small quantities entering the sector – despite their vital importance to continuity – remain at lower levels than it could have been previously extracted from the decreasing internal reserves, which have been completely exhausted now.

The running out of fuel has stopped the collection of solid waste during the past two days, and additional water wells were forced to close, especially in Deir Al -Balah. While certain health services have ceased or stopped – including dialysis – another can last for a few other days before they also have to stop.

The UN office explained that with every day it passes, the share of people decreases from clean water and health care, and the flooding of wastewater increases on the ground floors.

Since the resumption of fuel supplies, limited on July 9, the United Nations has managed to send a little more than 600,000 liters of diesel to Karam Abu Salem. Yesterday, for the first time, the United Nations was also able to send 35,000 liters of gasoline, which is intense.

The OCHA office explained that these quantities are limited, “because the Israeli authorities allowed only 14 trucks during the past week.”

To preserve the life -saving operations, Ocha office confirmed that hundreds of thousands of fuel liters are needed every day, noting that the limited fuel that is currently entered is mainly devoted to health, water and communications services, as well as to operate vehicles.

Human moves inside Gaza are restricted

Meanwhile, Ocha office stated that humanitarian movements inside Gaza are still restricted. Yesterday, seven out of 13 attempts to coordinate the aid and supplies movement with the Israeli authorities were facilitated, allowing humanitarian groups to restore some fuel, collect some water, transport generators, provide supplies related to hygiene and sanitation, and transfer the medical supplies that are intensified.

However, the remaining six attempts were directly rejected or approved in principle, and then faced obstacles on the ground.

An invitation to lift the ban on international media

On the other hand, the UN Commissioner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philip Lazarini, stressed the need to lift the ban on the entry of international media to Gaza.

He said in a post on X: “650 days of atrocities against civilians without allowing the entry of the international media. More than 200 Palestinian journalists have been killed. The media is nourished by misleading campaigns that question data and direct accounts from eyewitnesses and international humanitarian organizations. The ban on the media must be lifted.”
