On Saturday, the American President threatened several European countries that sent military personnel to Greenland to impose new customs duties if the territory was not completely sold to the United States.
These additional duties, amounting to 10%, will enter into force as of February 1, and may rise to 25% as of June 1.
The countries targeted by the American threat, namely Britain, Denmark, and Finland, stressed France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, in a joint statement on Sunday, expressed their unified position.
Since his return to power a year ago, the US President has repeatedly talked about controlling the vast island located between North America and Europe, justifying this with national security considerations in light of the Russian and Chinese advances in the Arctic.
