Sudan: The United Nations warns of the exacerbation of the humanitarian catastrophe, amid tightening restrictions on humanitarian access

The Office of Humanitarian Coordination (OCHA) reported that clashes were arrested on Tuesday in the city of Kadoukly, the capital of South Kordofan State, and quoted local sources as saying that gunmen tried to seize foodstuffs in the main markets.
UN spokesman, Stephen Dujarric, said at the daily press conference: “With the aggravation of the hunger crisis in Sudan, the city is still isolated from humanitarian aid, as the last supply route was closed from the neighboring North Kordofan state.”
Meanwhile, he pointed out that the heavy rains and floods in West Darfur state are threatening to obstruct the delivery of aid, as the roads that connect the capital of Mourne and Zalingi in the state of Central Darfur became “uncomfortable”.
Mr. Dujarik said: “These two cities are hosting large numbers of displaced people. Our humanitarian partners have warned that continued rains may exacerbate the interruption of access to the states of central and southern Darfur, which increases the difficulty of reaching people who need strongly to help.”
Community kitchens provide a lifeline for hunger
The United Nations spokesman pointed out that the displaced societies and host families in a long town in North Darfur have gathered together to create societal kitchens, and they “now feed thousands of people who have fled violence in El Fasher.”
Dujarik said these kitchens provided a lifeline for those who could not get food. “However, it faces a chronic and very funding deficiency. Many of them are fighting to remain in service, and some are at risk of closing completely due to a lack of resources.”
Mr. Dujarik reminded the journalists of the United Nations plan and its partners for a significant increase in the support provided to a long population, which requires $ 120 million in the next three months.
He stressed that the arrival of humanitarian aid is getting more complicated by checkpoints, taxes, road barriers, and bureaucratic obstacles imposed by the local authorities, including “The requirement to obtain multiple levels of approvals to provide the simplest services to the population.”
The United Nations spokesman appealed to the access of humanitarian aid unoiled throughout Sudan, providing more international funding to expand the scope of response, protect civilians and relief workers, and immediately stop hostilities.
