The United Nations: Cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is necessary in promoting peace efforts

This came during the speech of Khaled Khayari, Assistant Secretary -General of the United Nations for the Middle East and Asia Pacific Affairs at the Thursday Council session on cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the preservation of international peace and security.

Chouari said that cooperation with regional and regional organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation remains indispensable, at a time when geopolitical complications are increasing, stressing that this cooperation is a major priority for the Secretary -General and an important part of implementation Future Charter.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation includes 57 member states and represents an important political, economic, cultural and religious segment. Her voice carries great weight in some affected situations around the world.

Chouari said that the United Nations appreciates this partnership – not only as the issue of institutional cooperation – but as a key component of our efforts to promote permanent peace, comprehensive governance and respect for international law and international human rights law.

He explained that cooperation between the two organizations extends to include a wide range of Qatari fields and topics, noting that the general meeting of cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation – which is held every two years commissioned by the General Assembly – is an important platform “the gathering of senior representatives of our organization to assess our cooperation and discuss ways to enhance it strategically.”

He pointed out that this meeting is gaining the importance and urgent urgency in the context of the complex geopolitical scene today and the difficult financial environment.

Identical visions around the Middle East

In the Middle East region, Khayari said that the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have been participating for a long time, identical goals in seeking a permanent and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

He referred to the joint annual conference on the Jerusalem issue, which was held by the two organizations in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, on July 9, under the title: “The suppression of the Palestinians and their displacement in Jerusalem in the shadow of the war: a mini model of the situation throughout the occupied Palestinian land.”

He added that the United Nations also appreciates the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States to ratify their recovery and reconstruction plan through their joint ministerial committee, indicating that this plan enhances collective pressure towards a just and comprehensive solution rooted in the relevant United Nations resolutions.

He said that the next ministerial meeting to support the two -state solution – which is participating in France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – is a key to highlighting the international consensus on these goals and reaffirming the principles that support the two -state solution.

Approval of Islamophobia

Khakari expressed his appreciation for the pioneering role played by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the face of the escalation of Islamophobia and all forms of religious intolerance. He affirmed the United Nations standing against all forms of hatred and discrimination, and its firm belief that diversity in all its forms only increases societies.

He said that the appointment of the Secretary -General of Mr. Miguel Moratinos as a special envoy to combat Islamophobia reflects the intention of the United Nations to intensify efforts on this important issue, in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other partners.

The UN official, Khaled Kharia, also affirmed the pivotal role of cooperation between the two organizations in supporting peace and security across different regions, including Lebanon, Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, the Sahel region, and the Rohingya issue.

Organization of Islamic Cooperation

Assistant Secretary -General for Political Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Youssef Mohamed Al -Dabaie, expressed his gratitude to the Secretary -General of the United Nations for his “sincere efforts to enhance dialogue and cooperation between the two organizations, in the service of issues of peace, security and development in the world.”

He said in his speech before the Security Council that political cooperation between the two organizations is a basic pillar in various cases of conflict listed on the agenda of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, especially the Palestine issue.

He cautioned that “failure” to implement the United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian issue, the delay in the global response to it “and the insistence of Israel in its colonial policies, may have caused the continuation of the longest colonial occupation in the modern era, destructive wars, disasters and human suffering aggravating in the occupied Palestinian territory.”

He said that the organization has repeatedly called on Israel to respond to the global call and provide the arrival of humanitarian supplies to Gaza and other affected areas in Palestine without obstacles and to stop preventing the United Nations humanitarian agencies from carrying out its mandate.

He called for the implementation of all United Nations resolutions, especially the General Assembly’s decision regarding the implementation of the International Court of Justice, calling for the end of the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian land. He said that the organization welcomes and supports the resumption of the high -level United Nations conference on the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of a two -state solution.

He announced the support of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the United Nations plan to combat terrorism, violent extremism, religious intolerance, Islamophobia, negative stereotypes and incitement to hatred.
