Iran is studying the closure of Tehran schools and universities due to the water crisis

In light of the acute water crisis in the Iranian capital, the government is currently looking to impose forced closure for a week, on bodies, universities and schools in Tehran.

“The water situation in Tehran is very bad, so we are studying the closure of the capital for a week,” said government spokeswoman Fatima Muhajani on Monday.

The Iranian Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted the spokeswoman as saying that the water crisis is a “national problem” and could lead to a catastrophe soon. Therefore, she said that the government should also discuss unconventional options.

Muhajani explained that the Iranian Shura Council (Parliament) wants to reduce the work week from five to 4 days, from Saturday to Tuesday, due to the water crisis.

In addition, the work system will be re -activated from the home, as it was followed during the outbreak of the Corona virus outbreak, to reduce the consumption of electricity and water.

A few days ago, the Iranian President, Masoud Boukhshkian, warned against the exacerbation of the water crisis in the capital, Tehran, to a degree that may force about 15 million people of its residents to leave, in one of the most dangerous official statements about the deteriorating environmental situation in the country.

“The situation is dangerous, and Tehran has no longer any water,” Bzshkian said, adding that the transfer of the capital to another place has become an option as an emergency solution.

Iran is facing a watered water crisis in more than 20 out of 31 governorates, amid indications of the prohibition of some vital water sources.

The official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted that one of the largest water tanks in the country may completely dry during the next four weeks.
