New Zealand and Australia are looking to enhance cooperation between their army

Yesterday, the Prime Minister of New Zealand and Australia discussed the strengthening of cooperation between their armies against the backdrop of an exceptional Chinese maneuver with live ammunition, which recently took place near their beaches.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Christopher Luxon, hosted his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albaniz, in the tourist city of Queens Town, to hold their second annual bilateral meeting.

Luxon told reporters that his country wanted to document military cooperation with Australia, which he described as “the only New Zealand ally.” He added, “We have focused greatly on joint work. We want to be a double power. ”

The summit comes in the wake of Chinese naval exercises to fire weapons fire in February in the Sea of Tasman, which separates Australia and New Zealand. The training forced commercial airlines to transfer their flight track.

Albaniz and Luxon admitted, in a joint statement, that their two countries face a strategic environment that is the most dangerous, and what could have been predicted decades ago, and that their alliance plays a crucial role in protecting and enhancing their common interests in the region.

The Prime Minister also praised the progress that was made during the past year to intensify defensive cooperation and integration.

While the statement did not mention, China, the Prime Minister confirmed that their most important commercial partner was discussed.

“Of course, geopolitical competition, especially among the great powers, is something that countries such as Australia and New Zealand are discussing together, and we cooperate with them politically,” Albaniz said.
