Human Rights Commission: The attacks on Al -Fasher and Abu Shok in Sudan are unacceptable and must stop immediately

Jeremy Lawrence at the press conference of United Nations agencies in Geneva today, Friday, expressed his fear that the actual number of civilian dead would be more than that.
The UNHCR spokesman said: “We are particularly dismay that among the latest wave of civilian killing, 16 of which appeared to be executions with brief procedures. Most of the victims were killed in Abu Shok camp, and they belonged to the African Zaghawa tribe.”.
He pointed out that in another case in the Al -Fasher region, one of the victims was asked about the tribe to which he belongs, and was killed after he was replied that he was from the African tribe of Al -Berte.
Lawrence said: “This type of attacks on civilians and premeditated murder, which constitutes grave violations of international humanitarian law, deepens our concerns about ethnic motive violence.”.
A situation in a critical point
On the situation in the city of El Fasher, a spokesman for the High Commissioner for Human Rights said that the situation there reached “Critical Point” After more than a year of the siege, there is an increasing threat of famine in both the city and other areas in North Darfur.
He expressed alarm regarding reports that those trying to deliver the necessary assistance to attack again.
He stressed that the humanitarian workers and humanitarian aid enjoy explicit protection under international humanitarian law, and they should not be targeted, adding that “The attacks on humanitarian efforts only exacerbate the human rights situation for civilians”.
The invitation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volcker Turk, conveyed to all parties to the conflict to take concrete and immediate measures to ensure the protection of civilians, including providing a safe passage for those wishing to leave the affected areas of the conflict, and facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid without obstacles to the needy.
