Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God preserve him, “Dubai Humanitarian”, an emergency air charge to Afghanistan, in response to the devastating earthquake that struck its lands early last week.

The shipment was organized in cooperation with a number of humanitarian action partners hosted by “Humanitarian Dubai”, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Humanitarian response warehouse of the World Food Organization, and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

The plane took off from Dubai this morning heading to the city of Kabul, with about 84 tons of urgent aid that includes medical supplies, shelters and other relief materials, and its value is estimated at 3.4 million dirhams (approximately 920 thousand US dollars), and this aid is expected to reduce the suffering of more than 730 thousand people affected by the natural disaster.

Giuseppe Saba, CEO and member of the Dubai Humanitarian Board of Directors, said that Dubai Humanitarian was established to enable the international human community to quickly and effectively respond when crises occurred … and when the earthquake that struck Afghanistan recently, we rushed in coordination with international humanitarian organizations and agencies to monitor field needs and prioritize the supply of the required relief materials.
