Nomination of 15 innovative architectural projects in the Middle East for the British Architects’ awards

Dubai, September 16/ WAM/ The Royal Institute of British Architects unveiled a list of 15 innovative architectural projects nominated for its first awards in the Middle East, which focuses on new and socially influential new buildings in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The candidate projects represent four countries, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, with the participation of regional and international architects from the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Singapore and Japan.

Among the most prominent nominations in the Emirates are Al -Wasl Square and the sustainability wing “Terra” in the city of Expo Dubai, as well as the Khor Kalba Reserve for Turtles, Wildlife and Garden Center for Geological Sees.

The winning project is scheduled to be announced during the Dubai Design Week on November 5, with a special event on the seventh of the same month.

Kerm Genghis, Chairman of the Jury, said that the candidate projects reflect a renewed cultural identity for the region through contemporary designs that combine innovation and heritage preservation, and form a new architectural language for the Middle East.

Chris Williamson, the Royal Institute of British Architects, pointed out that nominations show the development of architecture in the region with an ambitious, sensitive and purposeful spirit, through designs that respond to environmental and social challenges and put the human being at their heart.
