The National Rehabilitation Center in Abu Dhabi warned against believing the misconceptions that are promoted about narcotic substances, and the most common of them is the belief that some materials are safe because they do not cause addiction from the first use, but the medical reality proves that some of these substances may lead to psychological or physical attachment, which opens the door to addiction without the person feels that.

The center warned that there are those who think that some substances do not cause addiction from the first experience, but many cases began with them and ended with addiction, stressing within its awareness campaigns the importance of correcting these concepts within the efforts to prevent the drug scourge that target all groups of society.

He called for not believing everything that is said, noting that addiction is not a temporary experience, but rather a risky path, and it is important to correct these concepts and enhance awareness of its dangers.

He pointed to one of the wrong beliefs that hashish is normal and does not cause addiction, but the truth is that cannabis leads to mental and behavioral disorders, and it may cause long -term addiction, as well as the wrong belief that sedatives are not dangerous like other drugs, but the truth is that the abuse of sedatives leads to addiction, and causes damage to the blood and nervous system.

The National Rehabilitation Center also warned of a wrong belief among some by saying, “I control myself … and I can stop at any time.” But the fact is that addiction to the brain gradually controls the brain, and the user may become addicted from the first experience.

The center said that its message is to reduce the burden of addiction by providing specialized treatment and rehabilitation preventive programs based on evidence and capacity building in the field of addiction treatment, stressing that awareness is the first steps of protection and building a consistent and conscious generation.

The center provides its therapeutic and rehabilitation services based on the internationally approved standards as a cooperative center with the World Health Organization, ensuring the provision of high -quality health care.

He stressed that addiction does not start suddenly, but early observation makes a big difference, as well as early intervention, calling on the parents to monitor the behavior of their children and the changes that occur to them, such as isolationist behavior, mood swings, and low school or professional performance.

He pointed out that “addiction does not happen by coincidence, but rather as a result of multiple factors that accumulate over time,” stressing that the supportive family, righteous friends, and continuous awareness are the first line of defense.

On what drives a person to addiction, the National Rehabilitation Center indicated that there are hidden but impressive factors, including his presence in an unstable family environment, the absence of communication and dialogue, cruelty or excessive pampering, the presence of continuous problems between parents or towards children, and the absence of clear laws at home.

A second factor, which is the effect of the surrounding environment and includes bad comrades, the time of emptiness and boredom, poor societal awareness of the dangers of drugs, and spreading wrong beliefs on abuse.

There are also psychological and personal factors, including poor life skills, the inability to deal with pressure, curiosity or imitation, and weak religious and moral values.

He warned of the importance of monitoring uncommon changes, as signs may be of attention, such as the emergence of sudden behavioral changes, such as isolation from the family, lying and dribbling, the low level Signs of the surrounding environment, such as the presence of strange tools (needles – burned spoons – tin cuts), the disappearance of the money or valuable things, and unusual scents in clothes or room.
