The UAE precedes the schedule for gradual disposal of the ozone layer

Dubai, September 22 / WAM / The UAE managed to anticipate the internationally specified schedule to gradually dispose of the ozone layer, while it continues to perform its pioneering role in environmental work at national levels, and support international efforts aimed at gradual disposal of these materials, and to reduce the use of its alternatives with the harmful effect on the climate, by its success in preventing the consumption of the group “chloroplorbrbon” And “Halunat”, since 2010, and reduced the consumption of the “Hydrochloroproflorocarbon” group by 35%, over the past ten years.
The data of the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics revealed that the continuous decrease in the consumption of the exhausting groups of ozone reflects the commitment of the UAE to gradually get rid of these materials, which cause damage to the ozone layer, according to the proportions and time frameworks specified within the agreements and protocols concerned, up to the date of its total ban in 2040.
The UAE is one of the leading countries in supporting international efforts to protect the ozone layer, as it has joined the Vienna and Montreal Protocol since 1989, including all its amendments, such as 2016 Kigali amendment, which aims to reduce the use of hydropholic carbon compounds, which are alternatives that do not deplete ozone but contribute to global warming.
In the context of its commitment to these agreements, the UAE has gradually eliminating the harmful materials of the ozone layer, such as chloroplorrobron compounds, halons, including “Halon 1211”, and hydrochlororoplaroorbons, in addition to starting to reduce the use of “HFCs” compounds according to Kigali modification.
The state has also issued clear legislation regulating the circulation and use of dangerous chemicals, and these legislations include accurate requirements for storage, transportation and safe dealing, ensuring the protection of the environment and public health.
The UAE is continuously cooperating with the United Nations Environment Program, and provides periodic reports on progress in implementing international obligations, and effectively participates in the global meetings of Montreal Protocol, which reflects its commitment to joint environmental work at the international level.
The data of the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics showed that according to the basis that constitutes the average annual amount of production or consumption of the ozone -depleted materials during a specific reference period, according to the “Montreal” protocol, data in 2015 showed that the amount of the UAE’s consumption of the “hydrochlororoprorrocarbon” group reached 473.90 tons measured by the ability to exhaust Ozone, and therefore the state previously complied with the internationally required reduction rate according to the recommendations of the protocol, which stipulated that consumption reduce 10% of the baseline, which amounted to 557.1 tons, while in 2020, the consumption amount was 353.59 tons, a decrease of 35%.
In the years 2021-2024, the UAE continued to reduce the group’s consumption, indicating its tireless endeavor to achieve international requirements within the international timeline, and reaching the percentage of reduction required for the year 2025, which is 67.5%, until its consumption ends completely in 2040.
