Abu Dhabi, September 23/ WAM/ The platform “Ladies for Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy” announced the global initiative launched by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, and the Zayed Sustainability Award in 2015, the opening of receiving requests to participate in the “pioneers” program for the year 2026, with the aim of enabling the next generation of leaders in the field of sustainability.
The “pioneers” program enters its ninth year, providing a competitive experience throughout the year, focusing on enabling promising women leaders in the field of sustainability.
Since its launch in 2018, the program has provided more than 535 hours of workshops, and more than 515 hours of individual guidance sessions, and also attracted more than 150 posts from more than 30 countries, as it provided them with expertise, knowledge, communication opportunities and acquisition of leadership skills to enable them to contribute an active role in making a qualitative shift in the energy sector and achieving tangible change in their societies.
The program attracts young women between the ages of 25 and 35 years, provided that they are entrepreneurs or have practical experience of no less than two years in one of the areas related to the environment, energy, sustainability, science, technology, engineering and mathematics specialties, while the program provides the young women with the opportunity to participate in specialized workshops and enhance communication in addition to individual guidance sessions with sector experts.
The pioneers also participate in the annual “Wasir Kerz” initiative, which allows them to interact directly with local communities and explores sustainable solutions applied through practical and field activities.
Dr. Lamia Nawwaf Fawaz, Executive Director of Institutional Identity and Strategic Initiatives at the Masdar Company and Director of Management of the Platform Programs “Women for Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy, said that the” Women’s Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy “platform has been established based on the belief in the importance of the leadership role of women in building societies, their progress and prosperity, noting that this is embodied through the program ‘Pioneers’, which focuses on enabling women to contribute effectively to advancing innovation, drafting policies, and developing solutions.
She added that with the opening of receiving requests to participate in the course ‘pioneers’ program for the year 2026, we are continuing our efforts in strengthening the leadership role of women around the world, as it is an essential pillar in formulating and implementing the global sustainability agenda.
Over the past years, the platform allowed women to lead and launch leading projects in the business sector, and contribute effectively and positively in their countries, which reflects the importance of the platform as one of the most important influential initiatives in the world that contribute to preparing women leaders in the field of sustainability, and today the program graduates contribute an active and influential role in the clean energy sectors, technology, policies, and community development.
The “pioneers” program combines professional development and practical experience, and includes specialized workshops and training sessions aimed at enhancing skills in the areas of clean energy, sustainability, leadership and innovation.
Participants in the program will have the opportunity to participate in the annual “Wazer Curiz” initiative, which is an educational experience that focuses on enhancing cultural exchange and provides participants with an opportunity to apply practical solutions in the field of sustainability.
The “pioneers” made a trip to Indonesia as part of the “Wazer Curiz” initiative, and they were seen on the experience of transformation in the Indonesian energy sector, where the trip included field visits to ground thermal energy stations, floating solar energy projects, as well as participating in workshops on climate financing.
The “pioneers” program also provides opportunities to communicate with international experiences by allowing the pioneers to participate in prominent international activities such as Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and Climate Change Conference, as they contribute effectively to discussions aimed at causing a qualitative shift in the energy sector.
On her experience in the program, Fatima Afghan, one of the pioneers of the 2025 batch of the UAE, said that women are rarely available to women in the early stages of their career career the opportunity to participate in dialogues at the level of leaders and experts of the sector to draw the features of the future, but the ‘pioneering’ program from the women’s platform for sustainability, environment and renewable energy ‘works to change this reality.
