"Emirates Aviation Engineering" Launches a program "Future Materials Studio"
Dubai, July 30 / WAM / The Emirates Airline Engineering Center launched the “Future Materials Studio” program, which allows university students over a period of six weeks to invent new uses for materials extracted from decommissioned aircraft, and transform them into practical and innovative products.
The program is led by the Center’s Recycling Department, which provides a platform that brings students together with experts and specialists in the aviation sector to work on real-life challenges drawn from the heart of the industry.
The program aims to stimulate creative thinking among participants and provide them with practical experiences that contribute to preparing a new generation of specialized talents in the aviation sector.
23 male and female students from Khalifa University, Emirates Aviation University, and the University of Sharjah participated in the first edition.
The program began with an introductory session and a comprehensive tour of the Emirates Engineering Center facilities, during which the students met a number of executive leaders and learned closely about the maintenance operations of the Emirates fleet, including light and comprehensive periodic checks, in addition to visiting a workshop specialized in recycling aircraft materials and converting them into new products.
During the next six weeks, the students will work to use the knowledge and experience they have gained to develop innovative ideas and concepts for reusing aircraft materials. The Emirates Airline Engineering Center teams will also provide them with guidance and support during the various stages of generating ideas and developing concepts and prototypes.
The program concludes with a final exhibition during which students present their ideas and prototypes for products made from repurposed aircraft materials.
Emirates Airlines is implementing one of the largest fleet modernization programs in the aviation sector, with an investment worth several billion dollars, which includes the modernization of 219 Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, which contributes to improving customer experience throughout its fleet.
As part of the programme, Emirates Airlines takes advantage of materials removed from aircraft during modernization operations, and repurposes them as part of initiatives fully implemented by the teams at the Emirates Airline Engineering Center in Dubai.
A specialized team works to transform these materials into carefully handcrafted products, reducing waste and giving them a new life cycle.
The “Future Materials Studio” is an extension of Emirates Airlines’ efforts in this field, the most prominent of which is the limited-edition “Aircrafted by Emirates” collection, which includes a variety of travel bags, personal bags and accessories made from materials extracted from Emirates aircraft.
These efforts also include the “Aircrafted KIDS” initiative, which uses fabrics and other materials recovered during the fleet modernization program to make handmade backpacks for children. To date, Emirates has donated more than 4,000 backpacks to children in 11 countries.
