From the blue economy to the green corridors .. innovative solutions that lead the discussions of the first day of the global maritime event in Dubai

Dubai, September 30 / WAM / The first day of the activities of the maritime event accompanying the International Maritime Day, hosted by the UAE, witnessed in -depth international dialogues on the most prominent challenges facing the oceans, as three extensive discussion sessions focused on offering advanced visions and innovative solutions, which established the role of the Emirates as a global center to formulate the future of the marine sector.

The first session dealt with, “Our surroundings … our commitment and our chances”, with the participation of Arseneo Domingiz, Secretary -General of the International Maritime Organization, and Captain Saif Al -Muhairi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Naval, CEO of Sustainability in the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, and Ali Shihab, Global Director of Projects and Special Services at DNV, the close relationship between ocean health and economic growth, where speakers confirmed that investment in The “Blue Economy” has become an essential pillar of sustainable development, and they stressed that the adoption of this trend enhances the competitiveness of countries, and opens wider horizons for investment in innovative solutions that guarantee the preservation of marine resources for future generations.

The second session focused on the challenges of “carbon removal and climate change”, where experts discussed, including Dr. Hanan Kfoura, Ambassador of the Middle East and North Africa region at the Italian National Observatory for Seas Protection and Climate Change, Peter Rosh, Secretary -General of Mission to Seafarers, and Oriol Techido, Regional Director of Air Quality and Climate Change in a company Ricardo PLC for the Middle East, Aref Al -Awadi, Director of the Sea Maritime Emergency Assistance Center in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Ali Shehab, alternative to alternative fuel capabilities such as hydrogen and ammonia, and the importance of expanding the experiments of “green freight lanes” through international cooperation.

Today, he concluded with a session on “procedures to confront marine plastic waste from ships”, with the participation of Dr. Hashem Abdullah bin Sarhan Al -Zaabi, Director of the Sharjah Marine Academy, Tim Kovin, CEO of Tristar Eships, Sasi Brahimi, Director of Marine Assets – Shipping and Marine Services Sector in the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Ayman Bonab, a consultant at a company LLOYD’s Register, where the session discussed the importance of adhering to the “Marbol” agreement, reviewing the latest technologies for waste management on the ship, and the need to enhance the capabilities of reception facilities in global ports.
