The launch of the 4th Abu Dhabi International Manuscripts Conference

ABU DHABI, 8 October / WAM / The activities of the Fourth Abu Dhabi International Manuscript Conference, organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi in cooperation with McGill University – Canada, began today and will last for two days, at the Cultural Foundation.

Each session, the conference brings together researchers and experts around the world to discuss issues related to Arabic manuscripts in areas such as geographical and literary texts, with the aim of preserving heritage.

This year, the conference hosts an elite group of specialists in art history, Islamic and Arabic manuscript studies, cultural heritage preservation, and digital humanities, to shed light on “The Aesthetics of the Visual Arts in Arabic and Islamic Manuscripts – The Artistic Legacy and Its Contemporary Influences” and to discuss the precise aesthetic, cultural, and historical importance of the manuscript visual arts, and their impact on contemporary artistic expression.

His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said that the Fourth Abu Dhabi International Manuscript Conference is an essential pillar of our mission at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, which aims to preserve Arab heritage and enhance its presence to ensure its sustainability. In cooperation with McGill University, and hosting an elite group of experts, scholars, students and interested people from all over the world, we are committed to providing an ideal platform for them to expand… their horizons and interaction with their specialist and academic counterparts.”

His Excellency added that by bringing together leading researchers side by side with emerging academic generations, we seek to establish inspiring dialogues, motivate the next generation to in turn be guardians of our heritage, and consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for cultural and intellectual exchange and academic excellence.

In conjunction with the conference, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and McGill University are hosting the international traveling exhibition “Ink of Gold: A Journey Through Arabic and Islamic Manuscripts,” which celebrates the richness, beauty and influence of the Arab and Islamic manuscript heritage at the global level.

The organization of the conference and the accompanying exhibition, along with many cultural and academic initiatives, embody the pioneering role played by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi in protecting, preserving and promoting Arab cultural heritage and highlighting the aesthetic and cultural value of Arab and Islamic manuscripts, and their contemporary importance on the global scene, while contributing to advancing capacity building efforts and enhancing academic research.
