Emirati companies promoting the future of sustainability in "World Conservation Congress"

Abu Dhabi, October 12 / WAM / During the World Conservation Congress, Emirati companies presented innovative projects that reflect the country’s commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainability, emphasizing the role of the private sector in developing future solutions to preserve natural resources and support environmental balance.
Yassine Ait Cassi, co-founder of the ELYX Foundation and the Future of Culture Agency for Soft Influence in the Emirates, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the Foundation is presenting the “Archibel” project, which represents a fictional world full of islands inspired by true stories, adding that these stories resulted in the creation of a group of carbon credits in the Mediterranean region, which were traded on the financial markets. During last summer.
He added that the project aims to build a bridge linking the future vision and the ambitions associated with it with practical and tangible tools to finance and achieve this vision, noting that the next phase will witness the continued development of these tools and their presentation in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with a focus on the UAE.
He explained that the Foundation’s project combines an artistic aspect that deepens the public’s experience and takes them into the world of the project and its topics, and a practical aspect that focuses on financial tools and partnership with non-governmental organizations to work to preserve and protect environmental systems.
For his part, Taha Ghaznawi, CEO of technical products and services at the Emirati company “Nabat”, explained that the company provides a unique experience through a group of screens that display a tank containing a real mangrove, relying on technology as an effective tool to support environmental conservation efforts.
He said that during the conference, Nabat is organizing several specialized sessions that review how to employ nature and technology to expand the scope of its impact, integrate the principles of nature into the company’s products, and enhance the efforts of the environmental team in restoring forests.
Ghaznawi pointed out that “Nabat” is working diligently to restore millions of hectares of mangrove forests in the Emirates and abroad, stressing that the company’s main client is the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, considering that the partnership with the Authority is a strategic extension of several years to support the Emirates’ efforts in rebuilding these vital forests.
He announced the launch of a new cooperation with the Yas Sea World Research and Rescue Centre, with the aim of implementing a pioneering project to monitor marine life and sea grass.
In turn, Terra reviewed the Sustainability Center at Expo City Dubai, during its participation in the conference, the ability of cities to enhance urban biodiversity in dry environments, and provide a practical model for how natural life can flourish in harsh urban areas.
Terra highlighted its educational and community initiatives that aim to restore environmental balance within cities, most notably the “100 Hives” program, which turns schools into mini-ecosystems that support bee pollinators, in addition to local wildlife restoration projects that contribute to enhancing urban biodiversity.
Terra also showcases its latest scientific achievement, represented by the opening of the first global center for fungi affiliated with the International Union for Conservation of Nature in the Middle East, which focuses on studying more than 1,300 species of endangered fungi and developing innovative solutions in the fields of carbon storage, ecosystem restoration and medicine.
For her part, Dr. Julia De Masi, Associate Professor in the Department of Science and Engineering at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and a principal researcher at the Sorbonne Center for Artificial Intelligence, said that the university is participating in the official sessions of the conference by organizing a panel discussion on the challenges of sustainability and climate change, with a focus on the relationship between science and politics.
She explained that the seminar focuses specifically on the role of mangroves, which are of great importance to the future of the climate in the UAE, with the participation of international experts in mangrove biology, related policies, and the role of technology in restoring these ecosystems and following up on the implementation of related policies.
She pointed out that the university is organizing a workshop in cooperation with the “Archibel” project that highlights the role of technology in monitoring biodiversity, with the participation of international experts in cetaceans on the coast of the Emirates and experts from “M42”, by reviewing the applications of artificial intelligence and marine robots in protecting the environment, in addition to participating in discussions with other pavilions about the role of the next generation in preserving the natural environment and instilling the values of its protection in generations.
