During a meeting organized by the two sides at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the United Nations Development Program revealed the details of the tenth edition of the “Knowledge Summit” and the most prominent topics on the agenda of the summit sessions, which celebrate an exceptional edition this year on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its launch.
In its sessions, the “Knowledge Summit 2025” addresses topics of enhancing global dialogue to build fairer and more effective knowledge markets that contribute to laying the foundations of a sustainable knowledge economy capable of adapting to rapid transformations. It also focuses on anticipating modern technology tools such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data and their role in creating practical solutions to global challenges, in addition to discussing pivotal issues including legislation and transformations. His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, Executive Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, said that the Knowledge Summit 2025 is a prominent strategic milestone that culminates a decade of qualitative achievements and reaffirms its mission of consolidating knowledge as a tool for empowerment, developing generations, and building a more prosperous future. He pointed out that announcing the details of this edition from the heart of New York reflects the status of the summit as an effective global platform and confirms its role. In formulating innovative solutions to common challenges in a way that enhances sustainable development and enshrines knowledge as an inherent human right and a basic pillar in empowering people and societies.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of the Regional Office for Arab States at the United Nations Development Programme, said that this year’s Knowledge Summit comes to confirm that knowledge is more than just an intellectual resource, as it forms the basis for building more just and sustainable economies and societies.
He added that the United Nations Development Program believes that knowledge markets can be the most important driver for empowering individuals, reducing gaps, and enhancing the ability of countries to confront global challenges from climate change to digital transformations.
This year, the summit will witness the holding of more than 45 dialogue sessions with the participation of about 130 speakers from the most prominent government officials, international experts, and leaders of thought, business, and development from various sectors. The summit will include accompanying activities that enhance its interactive nature, which include the Authors’ Meeting Corner, the Knowledge Markets Exhibition, and the Knowledge Café, in addition to organizing the round table on policies, as well as the launch of the 2025 edition of the “Knowledge Index.” “Global”, which contributes to anticipating future trends and opportunities related to knowledge economies and societies around the world, in a way that supports policy-making for countries.
Dr. Hani Turki, Chief Technical Advisor and Director of the Global Knowledge Project at the United Nations Development Programme, said that the “Global Knowledge Index” has been a pioneering knowledge tool since 2017 and has undergone a comprehensive review that began in 2024 with the participation of experts from multiple sectors to ensure that it keeps pace with the accelerating global transformations, including technology, the digital economy, climate change, and others.
He added: This reflects the result of a multidisciplinary collective effort, and its new version will be launched and its official results for the year 2025 will be announced during the “Knowledge Summit” in Dubai next November, as the index aims to provide in-depth insights that help countries draw up their future policies and investments.
The organization of the summit this year comes at a time when the world is witnessing radical transformations at the economic, technological and social levels, which highlights the importance of providing a global space for dialogue that provides the opportunity to exchange experiences towards building cross-border partnerships that contribute to formulating common visions for the future of knowledge.
