" International Fund for Houbara Conservation" The Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Tourism signs a memorandum of understanding

ABU DHABI, 13 October, 2017 (WAM) – The International Fund for Houbara Conservation and the Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding to preserve the Asian bustard and the great bustard in the Republic of Mongolia, during their participation in the World Conservation Congress 2025, which Abu Dhabi is hosting until October 15, under the slogan “Enhancing qualitative efforts to preserve nature.”
Under the memorandum of understanding, the two sides will work to preserve species rooted in the environment and cultural heritage of the UAE and the friendly Republic of Mongolia, protect breeding areas and migration corridors, and exchange the results of research, education and community awareness, especially since the Asian Mongolian bustard migration line ends in Abu Dhabi, as proven by studies through satellite tracking.
The joint memorandum of understanding was signed by His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Fund for Houbara Conservation, and His Excellency Batbiar Bat, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia.
Al Bawadry stressed the importance of Emirati-Mongolian cooperation in preserving the Houbara as an integral part of the natural and cultural heritage of the two friendly countries, as part of the prominent global Emirati efforts in the field of preserving the natural environment, following the immortal humanitarian approach of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul), and in translation of the inspiring humanitarian vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State (may God bless him and grant him peace). God), as the UAE, through the International Fund for Houbara Conservation, continues to work with various countries and relevant parties to harness science, knowledge, capabilities and skills to understand the behavior of Houbara birds, their natural habitats, methods of raising them and propagating them in captivity in order to preserve them from risks and extinction.
His Excellency pointed out the importance of the Emirati-Mongolian partnership in preserving Houbara bustards by enhancing the fields of scientific research and field surveys, implementing effective measures to restore their sustainable populations, monitoring their survival rates and success in reproduction, as well as determining the current situation and proposing effective measures to restore the abundance and sustainability of these two species in Mongolia, in light of the data collected by both parties via satellite devices. Artificial and field surveys during the period from 2017 to 2023, in cooperation with partners and national and international bodies, to track groups of Asian and great bustard birds to study their migration paths.
