Dubai, 15 October / WAM / His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, stressed that promoting a culture of optimism represents a strategic pillar for building systems capable of developing effective future solutions, in light of the rapid transformations that the world is witnessing in the field of technology and digital transformation, indicating that investing in hope and innovation is no longer an option, but rather a necessity to maximize impact. Positive use of modern technologies and harnessing them to serve communities and advance sustainable development.
This came during the opening dialogue session of the Global Future and Cybersecurity Councils 2025, organized by the UAE government in partnership with the World Economic Forum in Dubai, and its activities will continue until October 16.
Participating in the session were Robert M. Lee, CEO and co-founder of Dragos USA, Azeem Azhar, CEO of Exponential View, and Sylvia Earle from Mission Blue of the National Geographic Society in the US, moderated by Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum.
His Excellency pointed out that the radical transformations the world is witnessing are a source of inspiration and a catalyst for accelerating progress, stressing that the UAE’s pioneering experience in transforming challenges into opportunities, and employing digital transformation and advanced technology in various vital sectors, has made it an inspiring model at the regional and international levels.
He said that supportive government policies and legislation constituted a decisive factor in transforming technology into a major catalyst for development and progress, and contributed to establishing a flexible and inspiring environment for innovation, adding that future generations will be more capable and aware in dealing with advanced technologies, and will play a pivotal role in building a sustainable and promising future in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence, in line with the country’s aspirations and visions. He stressed the importance of adopting a proactive approach to building a future based on artificial intelligence, based on developing a strong digital infrastructure, with the establishment of advanced data centers that ensure the sustainability of cybersecurity and efficient performance in the long term, pointing out that sustainability in the field of artificial intelligence is only achieved through the integration of technical readiness with the strategic vision, to ensure achieving the desired future return from these transformations.
Azim Azhar pointed out that the world is witnessing a remarkable acceleration in the dominance of software in various aspects of life and business, as it has become the backbone of many vital sectors, pointing out that software progress, despite the enormous opportunities it brings, is accompanied by complex challenges that require deep awareness and proactive preparation to address them, especially with regard to security, sustainability, and controlling increasing digital risks.
He praised the pioneering Emirati experience, noting that the UAE has been able, over the past five decades, to build a digital infrastructure that is among the most advanced in the world, and in many ways superior to its counterparts in a number of Western countries. He considered that this progress constitutes one of the pivotal factors in the process of sustainable development and prosperity that the country is witnessing, and gives it a high competitive advantage in the global digital economy.
In the same context, Sylvia Earle emphasized that technology has opened wide horizons for humanity to explore the unknown, through deep-sea diving techniques, exploring new worlds, wandering in space and learning about its peculiarities, which has led to the emergence of huge efforts to preserve the environment, especially with the increasing threats facing many living organisms and environmental resources, which calls for taking decisive and effective measures. To ensure a sustainable future that enhances the balance between humans and nature.
