Global Future Councils launch an international environmental movement to protect the planet

Dubai, October 15 / WAM / Experts and specialists have confirmed that building a more sustainable environmental future requires enhancing integration between climate and development policies, and achieving an effective balance between economic growth and protecting the planet.

During their participation in the meetings of the Global Future Councils within the environment theme, they stressed the importance of just transformation and innovative financing as key tools to accelerate environmental action and enhance the resilience of environmental and economic systems, ensuring a healthy and comprehensive future for future generations.
The UAE government, in partnership with the World Economic Forum in Dubai, is organizing the Global Future Councils 2025, as a platform for exchanging knowledge, sharing experiences and expertise, and an incubator for international cooperation aimed at transforming shared visions into a positive reality, whose outcomes constitute the features of the agenda of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The environmental councils focused on a number of vital paths to build a more sustainable environmental future, and achieve a balance between economic development and protecting the planet.

The participants touched on a set of pressing environmental challenges facing the world, ways to develop a comprehensive vision to address air pollution, climate and nature governance, the interconnection of energy, water and agriculture, in addition to a just shift in climate policies, and innovative financing for nature and climate, within the framework of international efforts aimed at accelerating steps towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
The Clean Air Future Council reviewed the most prominent global challenges resulting from air pollution, and the resulting economic, health and development impacts, based on World Health Organization data indicating that 99% of the world’s population breathes air that does not meet health standards.

The attendees discussed possible solutions to accelerate the transition towards clean air globally by 2030, by developing comprehensive policies that allow the release of the interconnected environmental, economic and social benefits resulting from improving air quality, ensuring a healthy future for future generations.
The Future Council for Climate and Nature Governance discussed the importance of integrating climate considerations into institutional structures and governance strategies, in a way that enhances the flexibility and sustainability of companies in the face of legal and regulatory risks arising from climate change, and discussed ways to develop incentives and policies that enable decision-makers to accelerate the transition towards a global economy free of net emissions and more in harmony with nature.
The Energy Interconnected Future Council addressed the importance of a deep understanding of the vital relationships that combine energy, water, agriculture and economic development, and stressed the necessity of strengthening joint work between the government and private sectors, to link the energy transformation agenda with environmental and economic challenges, in a way that consolidates energy security and sustainability in the long term.
The Future Council of Energy Technologies Horizons reviewed the growing role of advanced technologies in redrawing the features of future energy systems, stressing the need to accelerate innovative technical solutions to ensure the construction of comprehensive, flexible and adaptable energy systems by 2050, taking into account the social, economic and environmental dimensions of the energy transition.
The Future Council for a Just Transition discussed the importance of developing innovative economic and regulatory policies that ensure a fair distribution of the costs and benefits of climate action, bridging the gap between climate goals and the requirements of social justice, and contributing to building a sustainable development model that does not exclude anyone.
The Council for the Future of the Forest Economy reviewed the challenges of increasing demand for wood and biological products, and the pressures it imposes on natural forests, stressing the necessity of adopting integrated strategies that combine conservation efforts and commercial activities, and encourage investment in land reclamation and protection of biodiversity.
The Future Council for Innovative Finance for Nature and Climate discussed ways to enhance financial resources allocated to climate and environmental transformation, in light of the need for more than three trillion dollars annually to achieve carbon neutrality goals.

Participants discussed new financing models and multilateral partnerships capable of enabling societies to achieve positive outcomes for nature and accelerate the path to carbon neutrality globally.
The Natural Capital Future Council addressed the importance of integrating natural assets into economic decision-making processes, and stressed the importance of developing global initiatives to evaluate and protect natural capital as a fundamental pillar in achieving sustainable development.
