The International Basketball Federation suspends the membership of the British Federation due to governance problems

FIBA announced on Wednesday that the British Basketball Federation had been suspended by the body that supervises the sport globally, and the men’s team was banned from participating in international competitions due to governance issues.
A working group was formed in August by the International Basketball Federation to investigate “regulatory non-compliance” Within British basketball circles after a power struggle between the British Football Association and the Super League.
The British Football Association granted a 15-year license to run a new professional men’s competition, the British Basketball League, to the British Professional Basketball League in April, an association led by American businessman Marshall Glickman.
But the nine clubs that established the Super League were Basketball, after the collapse of the British Basketball League in 2024, refused to join, claiming that the bidding process run by the British Basketball Association represented an abuse of its position as the dominant authority in the sport.
The British Basketball Association strongly denied these allegations, stressing that it had granted a "temporary licence" Only for the Basketball Super League to bridge the gap until a long-term license is granted.
The International Federation of Basketball Association said in a statement: “It imposed these measures on the British Federation after a comprehensive review of the situation, including interviews and meetings that took place with stakeholders in the sport.”
