"Emirati publishers" participate in "Frankfurt Book"

Sharjah, October 16 / WAM / The Emirates Publishers Association is participating in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, once again raising the banner of Emirati creativity in the largest global forum for the publishing industry, where thousands of publishers, authors and cultural professionals from various countries of the world will gather, from October 15 to 19.

The association’s participation comes within the framework of its strategic plan aimed at building long-term professional relationships with international partners and developing a sustainable Emirati publishing system capable of adapting to global transformations and influencing the industry level.

The association participates through a group pavilion that includes 7 of the leading Emirati publishing houses, including: Ghaf Publications, Thaqafa Publishing and Distribution House, Ajyal Publishing House, University Book House, Austin Macauley Publishing House, Bu Melha Publishing and Distribution House, and Ugarit Publishing House, reflecting the rich diversity of the book industry in the UAE.

The association’s pavilion displays books from the latest publications of its members, supported by quick response (QR) code technology, which allows visitors to view summaries in English and direct contact information, which opens the way for expanding rights sales and concluding international publishing agreements with Emirati publishing houses.

Through a distinguished cultural cooperation between the “Ajyal” publishing house and the German “Weltentdecker Verlag” publishing house, the exhibition witnessed the launch of two books translated into German from the house’s publications, the first of which is “An Elephant on My Finger” in partnership with the German Vitiligo Society and the winner of the Etisalat Children’s Book Award 2023 in the picture book category, along with “A Tale of Two Colors” the winner of the Sharjah Children’s Book Award 2023 and extends. This cooperation also includes an agreement between “Ajyal” and the “Asian Book House” to translate the book “An Elephant on My Finger” into the Uzbek and Russian languages. This cooperation reflects the house’s keenness to build bridges of cultural dialogue and enhance the presence of Arabic literature directed at children on the global scene and confirms the quality and competitiveness of Emirati publications and their ability to reach readers around the world.

The association’s participation program included organizing an official reception with the participation of a group of international publishers. The event aimed to provide a platform that brings together Emirati publishers with international stakeholders and provides them with a valuable opportunity to enhance professional dialogue, introduce their publications, and build solid professional relationships, as well as highlighting Emirati hospitality as a bridge for cultural communication.

The Emirates Publishers Association was represented at the exhibition by a delegation that included His Excellency Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Association, who pointed out that “participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair represents a pivotal step in the Association’s strategy to enhance the global presence of the Emirati publishing industry,” stressing that participation also aims to reformulate the role of the Emirati publisher as an active player in the global publishing movement.

He added, “We are working to enable our members to benefit from this international platform by enhancing the exchange of literary rights, expanding the scope of translation, and providing opportunities for joint cooperation with well-established institutions from Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This participation is part of a long-term vision that aims to build a sustainable publishing industry in the Emirates that is able to compete globally and at the same time is rooted in our cultural and humanitarian values. We believe that Emirati literature… It carries originality and innovation capable of being a source of inspiration for readers and publishers alike and opening new horizons for global cultural dialogue.”

During the exhibition days, the association focuses on holding business meetings and bilateral communication sessions that bring together Emirati publishers and their international counterparts, along with representatives of other associations and organizers of book fairs around the world, which contributes to expanding the network of professional relationships, exploring long-term cooperation opportunities, and supporting the presence of Emirati literature in new global markets.
