In a quick and professional response, Dubai Police traffic patrols rescued the driver of a vehicle whose cruise control had malfunctioned while she was traveling on Emirates Road towards Abu Dhabi. The specialized teams intervened within minutes of receiving the report, which contributed to sparing the driver and road users the risk of a serious traffic accident.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, explained that the operations room received a report stating that a vehicle driver was unable to control her speed, as a result of the cruise control malfunctioning and she continued driving without responding to the brake pedal.

He added, “The patrols worked to secure the vehicle by creating a safe passage in front and behind it, while keeping other vehicles out of its path to avoid any potential collision. Thanks to tight coordination and calm handling, the driver was able to stop the vehicle safely on the side of the road.”
Brigadier General Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan stressed that the speed of response and immediate coordination between the operations room and field patrols played a decisive role in controlling the situation, praising the efficiency and professionalism of the traffic teams in dealing with such emergency incidents.
Important directions
Brigadier General Jumaa bin Suwaidan stressed the importance of drivers remaining completely calm when faced with a problem with the cruise control, fastening the seat belt, turning on the four-way warning lights and headlights, and immediately contacting the emergency number “999” to explain the situation accurately.
He said: “In such cases, it is recommended to try to reduce the vehicle’s speed by continuously and gradually pressing the brakes, or shifting the transmission to the neutral position (N). If these attempts do not succeed, the handbrake can be lifted gradually while holding the steering wheel tightly. If the fault persists, the transmission can be moved between the ‘N’ and ‘D’ positions several times in an attempt to reduce the speed. If any of these steps succeed before the patrols arrive, The vehicle must be stopped safely off the road and wait until the competent authorities arrive.
The Director of the General Traffic Department called on drivers to conduct periodic inspections of vehicles and ensure the safety of the brake systems, cruise control and other vital systems, stressing that regular maintenance and proactive awareness contribute to reducing the chances of sudden breakdowns on the roads. He stressed that the safety of drivers begins with awareness and prior knowledge of how to act in such situations, and that the correct decision at the appropriate moment can avoid The driver and those around him are at great risk.
