Speaker of the House of Representatives: The world is witnessing an unprecedented deterioration in the rate and severity of crises

Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, participated in the work of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Geneva, where he delivered a speech on the topic of the conference’s general discussion, “Commitment to humanitarian standards and support for humanitarian action in times of crises.” The highlights of which were as follows: 

At the beginning of the speech, he noted Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, pointed out that the world is witnessing an unprecedented exacerbation in the rate and severity of crises in all their forms and manifestations, whether resulting from armed conflicts, natural disasters, or global epidemics, which imposes the necessity of studying and evaluating the global humanitarian work system and its mechanisms as it is the front line of defense and the safe haven to which those affected by the scourges and repercussions of those resort. Crises.

During the speech, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali raised several pressing and revealing questions about the extent to which the humanitarian work system has succeeded in escaping the trap of politicization, and whether it has been able to transcend the tensions of the global scene. His Excellency continued that the answer is disappointing, as there are deep concerns sweeping across our people regarding the politicization of the global humanitarian work system, which has been subjected to severe tests in the East. The Middle East and Africa, pointing out that the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip were subjected to brutal aggression and grave violations against them by the Israeli occupation in behavior that amounts to genocide, which resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian situation in full view of the international system and its institutions in a blatant double standard that left a black spot in the history of humanity and humanitarian work that will not be subject to statute of limitations.

The advisor, Dr. Hanafi, reviewed Gebali: The efforts of the Egyptian state to support humanitarian work at all levels as an integrated model based on the culture of peace building through effective humanitarian diplomacy that enhances international humanitarian solidarity as a basic pillar for achieving peace, security, stability and sustainable development. He also pointed out that the Egyptian policy towards the crisis of the Israeli aggression on Gaza embodied an effective model for humanitarian work, as Egypt made a persistent effort. To stop the war in the Gaza Strip, which culminated in reaching the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, to stop the war, and Egypt led international relief efforts in the Gaza Strip to provide humanitarian aid to our Palestinian brothers, as the volume of Egyptian aid to the Gaza Strip reached about 70% of the aid that entered the Strip, with a total of 550 thousand tons of humanitarian, medical and food aid.

At the conclusion of his speech, the advisor, Dr. Speaker of the House of Representatives, confirmed that the deterioration of The crises hitting the world impose an urgent need for an objective and serious review of the efficiency and effectiveness of the global humanitarian work system to ensure improving the efficiency of responding to crises, supporting the sustainability of relief efforts, and enhancing the independence of humanitarian work from any political or military interests.
