New developments in the Emirati offer to buy Manchester United

British reports revealed that former French star Eric Cantona received an offer from a group of investors based in the UAE to assume the role of ambassador as part of efforts to acquire the English club Manchester United, in a move aimed at giving a symbolic and historical character to the deal by using legendary names in the club’s history.
The Guardian newspaper reported that the Emirati group is also seeking to communicate with former stars Wayne Rooney and David Beckham for similar roles, as it sees their presence as an added value capable of promoting the project and marketing it to the public and media on a large scale.
This move comes at a time when Manchester United continues to attract the interest of investors around the world, especially after the controversy that accompanied the process of Sir Jim Ratcliffe entering a partial stake in the club at the beginning of this year, and the subsequent expectations of full takeover deals in the future.
Eric Cantona is considered one of the most prominent symbols of Manchester United in the 1990s, as he played a pivotal role in the club’s return to the top of English football under the leadership of coach Sir Alex Ferguson. As for David Beckham and Wayne Rooney, they represent two different golden eras in the club’s history, as each of them achieved local and European championships and became among the most influential players in the history of the Red Devils.
The newspaper indicated that observers believe that the attempt to involve historical names of this size in a potential deal reflects the desire of investors to gain the sympathy of the fans and rebuild the image of Manchester United as one of the largest clubs with a popular base around the world, at a time when the team is going through a difficult transitional phase on the technical and administrative levels.
